I’m still stalled out on my comic “Cedar” but only because I’m busy helping several friends with their projects. And even though that sounds like a downer it’s really not. I have never had so much fun helping others, it’s actually liberating to not be in total creative control, and not just because it also means your not in total responsibility (but that can be nice too). Hearing genuine gratitude coming form someone you respect is a great feeling.
It’s so much better to hear thanks from some one who can’t pay you for your help, than if you are obligated by contract or commission to do the work for them. A thanks like that comes form the heart and you can feel the difference.
Also people tend to be a lot more willing to help you if you’ve helped them in the past. So if you see an opportunity to help some who can’t pay you for your time jump at it rather than shrug it off. You might have to push yourself out of our comfort zone and you may not get a metal for you good dead but it is still worth it.
